Universal Music Australia

The journey with the SPM on this challenging project was made incredibly enjoyable by their professionalism, honesty ,focus and commitment in delivering an exceptional space for Universal Music.

Janine Ashton - Senior Vice President Human Resources Asia Pacific

After being recommended for the project by Architect, Universal Music Australia (UMA) engaged SPM to provide construction management services to deliver their new Sydney head office and staged relocation from Millers Point and Surry Hills locations.

Project was originally planned as an existing location fit out, but it was soon established that current location and premised would not suit the future direction of UMA. It was resolved that a new location was to be found. SPM worked closely with the tenant rep during this process and helped secure final address of 150 William Street.

UMA Head office at Millers was very traditional, and UMA were looking for a modern minimalist feel for their new workspace . Works included a complete strip out 150 William street, including all flooring, ceilings, concrete render to columns and internal walls, along with a structural staircase between levels 6 & 7.

The final fitout included use of exposed services as a feature, wall art and unique structural materials to separate and zone areas of use. These features have been paired to enhance the loose furniture and have created amazing meeting and entertaining spaces for personnel and visiting local and international talent. The unique and versatile space has proved to be a drawcard for artist who love to use the space for small gigs and marketing materials.

The fit out was completed over 3 stages, including Basement mail room, Ground reception and stage, Levels 1,4,5 6 and 7 work and meeting spaces, Along with William St. façade modification and a rooftop BBQ and entertaining deck.

At time of commencement UMA was located at two premises, Millers Point and Surry Hills. In addition to the build works at 150 William St, SPM managed the staged relocation of staff and equipment from Surry Hills to William Street, Miller Point to Surry Hills, then finally from Surry Hills to William Street. This relocation involved significant coordination of resources and personnel. Each relocation was completed as scheduled and resulted in the least possible disruption to UMA’s business continuity. SPM achieved this by completing works after hours and over the weekend.
